The discovery of opiate addiction interruption qualities of Ibogaine in the 1960’s by Howard Lotsof is/was momentous. Hopefully the world at-large will come to recognize this …. and soon. The Iboga story goes on to reveal a plant medicine with powerful qualities of a psycho-active, psycho-spiritual, energetic nature. Among the various psycho-active plant medicines, each are from various parts of the botanical system .... vines, seeds, fungus, cactus, flowers etc. Iboga, being a root, seems a poignant metaphor for its grounding quality, a metaphor for the ground which sustains the path and the fruition. It is often experienced in this way.
By no means does this apply to everyone, but certainly the preponderance of people correctly ingesting the Iboga group of alkaloids, along with the Ibogaine alkaloid, make a deep connection with their energetic body (no exacting definition will be provided). With so much information and so many testimonials available on the Internet you will quickly see that Iboga can be administered and experienced in myriad ways. Those taking time to offer testimony tend to be those with a positive experience. IbogaQuest has witnessed nothing but positive affects, sometimes over time; though there are instances of disappointment. In our 70+ sessions we have watched people, sometimes through periods of anguish, or joy, experience something that this plant medicine wants them to see. The agitation tends to be short lived and afterward looked at as a gift. The Iboga experience, at bottom line, offers a period of amazing clarity. A clarity many feel as entirely new or residing in some vague memory. This clarity tends to last at least 2-3 months. (It has been 8 years since I 1st experienced Iboga and that session remains present.) Whether one is an opiate addict or a seeker, Iboga presents opportunities tending toward volitional action. Rare and precious.
Iboga is a product of Africa where, particularly by the Bwiti, it is used ceremonially and medecinally. For those who are disposed and capable of participating in an authentic Bwiti ceremony we encourage, with joy, your doing so. We are in Mexico and we are here, to a large part, because of the active ancient and indigenous-derived culture so very much alive. The IbogaQuest ceremony preceding the medicine is brief and locally based. A conch blows in the 6 directions, summoning the protectors; followed with a copal smoke cleansing and connection of those in in the session and the space. Additional or different or no ceremonial elements would be welcome.
IbogaQuest has now been around for 1.5 years ( as of January 2011). We have come to feel most effective and enriched working with people interested in a process of self-development or self-discovery. This does not mean that they can’t, as often they do, have situations of addiction and duress. There are those (vague) who say an Iboga experience has numerous years with a psychotherapies equivalent. Our experience says “probably”. We strive to provide a retreat environment to promote a period of pre- as well as post- Iboga reflection and integration. The medicine and the guest lead the way and we try to respect individuality at every step.
IbogaQuest offers you guidance, good medicine properly administered, creature comforts, experienced reassurances and an environment encouraging reflective time. There are a few local therapies we think of highly enough to recommend where perhaps appropriate. Our approach is to accommodate, serve and encourage. There will not be more than 2 people doing a session at any 1 time. Also, we try limiting ourselves to 2 session periods monthly We want to be participants with those coming here.
Don’t hesitate to call or write.
