Frequently Asked Questions
What is the environment like at the retreat?
Our program was created as an intimate, home-like environment, carefully held so that each person can arrive without performance and without fear.
You will stay in a private room within our Posada-style home.
Guests have access to shared spaces, the garden, a pool, and a solar-heated jacuzzi overlooking the mountains of Tepoztlán.
We intentionally host small groups (a maximum of 7 participants) just 1 time per month to ensure highly attentive, individualized care.
What is included in the 7-Day Retreat?
The standard retreat runs from Monday to Monday and includes:
A flood dose ibogaine experience (lasting approximately 36 hours) with continuous medical monitoring.
Days dedicated to rest and recovery.
A booster ibogaine dose designed for deeper integration and prolonged neurological benefit.
Daily therapeutic integration support, which includes individual and group therapy, meditation, breathwork, somatic practices, and more.
Healing modalities such as Janzu water therapy, massage, art therapy, and a traditional Temazcal (sweat lodge) ceremony.
Who makes up the IbogaQuest medical team, and what are their qualifications?
Safety is our highest priority. While we intentionally create a warm, intimate, and home-like environment rather than a hospital setting, our clinical rigor is uncompromising.
Our team is present 24/7, ensuring continuous care and monitoring throughout your stay.
During medicine sessions, full medical staff and paramedics are onsite to provide continuous medical monitoring.
We collaborate with specialized experts, such as chemist Ian McKenna, who advises on our safety protocols and contraindications tools.
Our therapeutic team includes psychotherapists and coaches who guide your preparation and integration.
I have heard Ibogaine referred to as a "non-medical detox." Is the detox process at IbogaQuest medically supervised?
There is sometimes confusion online regarding the phrase "non-medical detox" in the context of psychedelic therapy. To be absolutely clear: we do not endorse unmonitored detoxification.
For those coming for addiction interruption who require detox support, we offer an early arrival program (up to 7 days) in Tepoztlán at a separate supervised location.
This detox process is strictly overseen by our medical team.
We guide you through this process safely and responsibly, and for certain prescription medications, we may coordinate tapering with your prescribing physician.
If we determine that a longer or more intensive medical detox is necessary than we can safely provide, we will refer you to trusted partner providers.
IbogaQuest operates with full ACLS qualification and equipment during administration of the treatmen and full time medical, nursing and psychological staff.
What medical tests are required before being approved for treatment?
Because ibogaine affects the cardiovascular and nervous systems, comprehensive medical clearance is mandatory. Before final confirmation, we require the following medical tests completed within three months of your retreat:
Blood pressure reading
EKG (including graph)
Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Basic Metabolic Panel
General urine test
Liver function test
If you are over 60 or have specific medical conditions, additional testing (such as a stress test) may be required.
Are there any substances or psychological conditions that disqualify someone from treatment?
Yes, because your safety and well-being are always our highest priorities. Ibogaine is a profoundly powerful medicine that affects both the cardiovascular and central nervous systems, which means it is not a safe or appropriate path for everyone.
Rather than using a rigid, one-size-fits-all checklist, we take a deeply individualized approach to your care. Once you fill out your initial application, our multidisciplinary clinical team will carefully review your comprehensive medical history, previous psychological diagnoses, current medications, and your current life situation.
We assess each guest with nuance and compassion. For certain cardiovascular conditions, psychiatric profiles, or the use of specific substances (such as certain long-acting medications or benzodiazepines), we must exercise extreme caution. In some cases, we may work with you to determine if a different preparatory step—such as a medically supervised medication taper—is required before you can safely receive ibogaine.
Please know that our commitment to your safety is continuous. We adhere to strict clinical protocols and ongoing medical assessments. Because we operate strictly under the principle of "do no harm," our medical team retains the authority to pause or stop the treatment process at any point—from your initial application through to your time at the retreat—if we determine that proceeding would pose a risk to your health.
How does Ibogaine interrupt addiction?
Ibogaine provides a powerful neurological and psychological interruption—it is not a maintenance therapy.
It acts on multiple brain systems simultaneously, including opioid, dopamine, serotonin, and NMDA receptors.
It increases neuroplasticity factors (such as GDNF) that help repair disrupted reward pathways.
For opioid dependence, it can significantly reduce or eliminate acute withdrawal and dramatically decrease cravings within hours, creating a critical window of clarity for behavioral change.
Can Ibogaine help with mental health conditions like depression or PTSD?
Yes. Ibogaine has shown promising potential in supporting individuals struggling with depression, treatment-resistant mood disorders, post-traumatic stress, and certain cases of traumatic brain injury. By acting on multiple neurological systems and promoting neuroplasticity, it may help “reset” emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns that feel stuck.
Do you treat individuals looking for spiritual or psychospiritual growth?
Absolutely. Many people come to ibogaine to deepen self-understanding during a time of transformation, transition, or rite of passage. Ibogaine can open a profound space for insight and self-reflection, helping individuals explore life direction, relationships, grief, or purpose.
What happens after I return home?
Healing continues beyond the retreat. Ibogaine opens a powerful 2–3 month neuroplasticity window, making you highly receptive to cultivating new habits.
Your program includes 1 to 3 integration sessions after you return home to help translate insights into sustainable change.
Because conditions like PTSD and addiction involve complex nervous system dysregulation, we strongly recommend ongoing therapeutic support. We can connect you with experienced therapists and coaches familiar with ibogaine integration.
Do you offer extended aftercare facilities?
While our physical retreat is deeply focused on your immersive treatment week, we consider integration and aftercare to be critical components of your overall healing journey. We do not operate an extended residential aftercare facility ourselves, but we are deeply committed to ensuring you have a robust support system post-treatment.
Because we understand that every individual's path to recovery is unique, we avoid one-size-fits-all referrals. Instead, we take a highly personalized approach:
Collaborative Planning: During your onboarding and preparation process, our therapeutic team will work closely with you to understand your specific needs, home environment, and long-term goals.
Careful Recommendations: We treat every case individually. Only after getting to know you will we suggest specific therapeutic approaches, trusted integration coaches, or aligned recovery professionals.
Co-Creating Your Path: Together, we will build a tailored aftercare plan designed to support your continued stabilization and help you translate the profound insights of your ibogaine experience into lasting, everyday change.
How much does the program cost?
At IbogaQuest, each program is carefully tailored to your intention, medical history, and required level of support. All treatments include medical screening, onsite medical supervision, prep and integration sessions, accommodations, and meals.
Spiritual / Psychospiritual Work: 6,500 USD
Mood Disorders / PTSD / TBI: 7,500 USD
Addiction Interruption: 8,500 USD – 13,500 USD (The higher range accounts for cases requiring early arrival and medically supported detox).
Do you offer financial assistance or discounts?
Yes. In deep appreciation for their service, we offer a 1,000 USD discount for veterans and first responders.
We also recognize that entering into this level of care is a significant financial investment. If you are facing a difficult economic situation but feel a genuine need and readiness for this treatment, we encourage you to still submit an application. Because we intentionally run a very small, intimate clinical program to ensure the highest level of medical safety and individualized therapeutic care, our financial flexibility is inherently limited.
However, we are deeply committed to the healing process. We are always willing to listen to your story. Once you complete your application and we establish that you are a safe clinical fit during the intake process, we are open to discussing your situation to see if we can create a workable financial arrangement. We are here to help whenever possible.
Additionally, please remember that your medical safety always comes first: if our multidisciplinary medical team determines at any point prior to the retreat that ibogaine treatment is not safe for you, your deposit will be fully refunded.
